Acer held its Next@Acer event in New York City today, where it announced a new range of products. Aside from laptops, convertibles, and gaming PCs, the company also announced a smartwatch called the Leap Wear.
Unlike many of its competitors, the Leap Ware doesn"t use Google"s wearable OS, Android Wear. It has a MediaTek MT2523 chipset and MT2511 bio-sensing chip, and a 42mm display with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+, which should make it scratch-resistant.
You"ll need Acer"s Liquid Life app to pair it with an Android or iOS device, through which you can set goals, and "earn Power Coins through a number of activities like running for a number of consecutive days, biking for a certain distance, and more."
Along with the ability to monitor heart rate, stamina, stress levels, and UV rays, the company is promising three to five days of battery life, which will certainly prove useful to people who have experienced the pitfalls of your average smartwatch"s battery.
Acer says that the Leap Wear will be available in North America in July for $139 USD, in EMEA regions in the third quarter for €139, and in Taiwan in August for NT$4,990.
