Qualcomm is introducing its next-generation PC chipset today, and one of the first companies on-board with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G is Acer. The Spin 7 is set to be the firm"s first Windows on ARM PC, and it"s also set to be its first 5G PC.
Like Lenovo"s Flex 5G, which was the only other ARM-powered 5G PC, the Spin 7 will include support for sub6 and mmWave 5G. That means that it will support the low-band signals that meet you wherever you are, and the high-band millimeter waves that deliver blazing-fast gigabit speeds. Of course, the latter only works outdoors right now.
"We envision notebooks of the future to provide exceptional productivity and portability with human-centric design, ultra-long battery life, blazing-fast 5G connectivity and beyond," said Jerry Kao, Co-COO, Acer Inc. "The new Acer Spin 7 is an Always On, Always Connected notebook capable of keeping up with the modern work-from-anywhere lifestyle with its sleek form factor supporting up to multi-day use on a single charge."
Aside from cellular connectivity and the multi-day battery life afforded by the Snapdragon processor, the Spin 7 comes with a built-in Wacom pen with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. It also weighs in at 3.09 pounds and comes in at 15.9mm thin.
It also comes with a Full HD display, and Acer isn"t spilling the beans on anything else just yet, meaning there"s no spec sheet, pricing, or details on availability. One thing we noted when reviewing the Lenovo Flex 5G is that it was a very expensive PC, offering mid-range specs for a premium price, all in the name of 5G connectivity. Perhaps Acer will provide more value than its competitor did.
