Acer announces new Swift 5 and Swift 3 with Intel Tiger Lake

Swift 5 (SF514-55)

After a whole lot of teasing, Intel announced its 11th-generation mobile processors today. Codenamed Tiger Lake, that means that its time for OEMs to show off their new wares with the new CPUs. For Acer, that includes the Swift 5 (SF514-55), the Swift 3 (SF313-53), and the Swift 3 (SF314-59).

The new Swift 5 is one of the first to be verified for Intel"s new Evo standard, which is the latest from Project Athena, a set of standards that Intel provides to OEMs to assure a modern ultrabook experience. These include things like instant wake, Iris Xe Graphics, all-day battery life with fast charging, and more. The two Swift 3 models are pending verification.

"The new Acer Swift notebook lines represent a substantial leap forward in performance, responsiveness and usability for our customers who are cultivating a unique blend of work, life and passion-projects on-the-go," said James Lin, General Manager, Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer Inc. "Acer took meticulous care to ensure that all aspects of the design were elevated to match the best-in-class experience the Intel Evo platform provides to help our customers achieve more."

Swift 3 (SF313-53)

The Swift 5 keeps its magnesium alloy chassis so its super-light at 2.29 pounds, and its got a 14-inch FHD display at 340-nit brightness. Acer says that it can get up to 17 hours of battery life.

There are two new Swift 3 PCs, one of which comes with a 13.5-inch 3:2 display and the other comes with a 14-inch 16:9 display. The former has a 2256x1504 resolution at 400-nit brightness, and it can get up to 18 hours of battery life, being made out of magnesium-aluminum and weighing in at 2.62 pounds.

For the 14-inch model, you"ll find 0.22-inch bezels for an 82.73% screen-to-body ratio. Despite the smaller screen, it weighs 2.65 pounds, so it"s just a bit heavier than the 13.5-inch model. This is because it"s made out of aluminum, a much heavier material.

All of these new PCs will arrive in North America in November. The Swift 5 (SF514-55) starts at $999.99, the Swift 3 (SF313-53) starts at $799.99, and the Swift 3 (SF314-59) starts at $699.99.
