Acer held its Next@Acer event today, and with came a long list of new devices. One of them is the Swift X, a new member of the thin-and-light family and the first one to feature a dedicated GPU. It"s not a slouch, either, packing the new GeForce RTX 3050 Ti from Nvidia.
In addition to the GPU, the laptop is packing AMD Ryzen processors, up to a Ryzen 7 5800U, which is an octa-core processor with a 15W default TDP. It can also be had with up to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD storage. This all comes in a package that"s just 17.9mm (0.7in) thin, and it weighs 1.39kg (3.06lbs), so you"re getting plenty of power for the size. In fact, that"s kind of the point, as James Lin, General Manager for Notebooks at Acer, said:
“Acer’s new notebook models are designed to offer consumers the widest possible choice of high-performance, ultraportable computing devices(...). Professionals need a clean-looking notebook that is compact enough to take with them throughout the day, but it also has to be powerful enough to run multiple resource-intensive programs at once. With every device we make, we’re always pursuing that balance.”
Keeping things cool for heavier editing sessions, there"s a cooling fan with 59 blades that are 0.3mm thin, along with two copper heat pipes to help dissipate heat. The keyboard also has an "air inlet" design to help heat be expelled more easily.
Aside from the internals, the Swift X comes with a 14-inch Full HD IPS panel and an 85.7% screen-to-body ratio. The display can reach up to 300 nits of brightness and it covers 10% of the sRGB color space, so you should be able to do video and photo editing on it.
Otherwise, you can count on two USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-C, and an HDMI port for connectivity. There"s a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello authentication, too, and if you"re on calls often, AI-powered noise reduction should help.
The Acer Swift X will be available in June in the U.S. starting at $899.99. In Europe, it should be available in the summer and start at €899.
