In June, Acer released the Iconia W3, the very first Windows 8 tablet with an 8-inch screen. However, the reviews of the device were on the negative side and soon rumors began that Acer was planning to launch an improved version of the W3. A couple of weeks ago, that tablet was apparently outed at an Intel event with the name: Iconia W4.
Today, Acer made the W4 official, stating it would start shipping in the U.S. and Taiwan in October, and in Japan in November. Like the W3, the W4 has an 8-inch screen but this time there"s an IPS display with a resolution of 1280x800. It has an 1.8 GHz Intel Atom "Bay Trail" processor inside. There"s also a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera.
The W4 will have 2 GB of RAM and a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of on-board storage, along with battery life of up to eight hours. In many respects it is very similar to the Lenovo Miix2 tablet that was announced on Wednesday, although the W4 is a tad heavier at .91 pounds. However, Acer is offering some nice optional accessories for the Iconia W4, including the Crunch Keyboard, a full keyboard thats been put in a leather cover which also folds into a tablet stand.
The price of the 32GB model will be $329.99 while the 64GB version of the Iconia W4 will sell for $379.99.
