Acer refreshes its Predator Orion PCs with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 20xx GPUs

After what seemed like forever, Nvidia announced its new graphics platform today called RTX, built on the Turing architecture. The new graphics cards are the GeForce RTX 2070, RTX 2080, and RTX 2080 Ti, and Acer is announcing today that its Predator Orion PCs will be refreshed with support for the new GPUs.

“Acer is excited to be among the first to provide gamers the choice of the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs on our Orion series gaming desktops,” said Jeff Lee, General Manager, Stationary Computing, IT Products Business, Acer Inc. “With our commitment to bringing the latest technology in time to the market, gamers will be able to enjoy the latest breakthroughs in graphics for an incredible gaming experience.”

The flagship of the bunch is the Predator Orion 9000 series, which you can get configured with up to an Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition with 18 cores and 36 threads, and now up to a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. That means it supports up to 8K UHD. The refreshed models also have new RGB lighting on the chassis and fans that support 16.7 million colors.

"With the powerful Orion series gaming desktops, our new GeForce RTX GPUs provide consumers with an incredible gaming experience." said Tim Bender, Vice President of Consumer Sales at NVIDIA. "With breakthrough technologies including real time ray tracing and next-gen, ultra-fast GDDR6 memory, we’re excited that our new GeForce GTX 2080 Ti and 2080 GPUs are helping Acer create a revolution in gaming realism and performance.”

The Predator Orion 5000 and 3000 series are getting refreshed as well, with the 5000 series supporting up to a Core i7+ 8700K processor and RTX 2080 GPU. The Predator Orion 3000 series also comes with up to an eighth-gen Core i7, but with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 GPU.

Acer said that pricing and availability for the refreshed PCs will vary by region; however, don"t expect to see them until the end of next month when Nvidia actually makes the new GPUs available.
