Acer has been a long-time Microsoft partner when it comes to PCs and peripherals but, more recently, the company has also been playing around with Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile. Now Acer is rumored to be unveiling four new devices at IFA 2015, all powered by Microsoft’s mobile operating system.
The news comes via WinFuture.de which is citing unnamed sources, claiming that Acer is ready to get behind Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile OS. Unfortunately, that’s the extent of what’s currently known and there’s no info about those devices at all.
As for Acer itself, the company did return to the Windows Phone ecosystem this spring, when it launched a new low-end handset, the Liquid M220. Even back then the company said it was committed to bringing Windows 10 Mobile to its handsets, so launching a slew of new devices seems like a realistic move.
As Microsoft slashed its mobile division, and committed to launching only a limited number of Lumia devices each year, other ODMs might want to step in to fill the gap. And it’s true that Windows Phone has seen very little success, but with the launch of the new Windows 10 version, there’s no better time for these ODMs to try again.
IFA 2015 is taking place this September in Berlin and we’ll be keeping a very close on all of the announcements coming out of the event, so stay tuned for the latest.
