The Acer"s Swift 3 that was announced at IFA last year is a significant improvement over the one that I reviewed back in June. For one thing, it solves the biggest gripe that I had with it, which is that you couldn"t charge with the USB Type-C port. In fact, the USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port has been upgraded to Thunderbolt 3.
But there"s way more to it than that. Rather than being made out of aluminum, it"s now made out of magnesium. That means that the weight has been shaved down from 2.87 pounds to 2.68 pounds, a noticeable difference. The bezels have been slimmed down too, giving it an 84% screen-to-body ratio.
It keeps the matte 1080p 14-inch display, the backlit keyboard, and unfortunately, the USB 2.0 Type-A port, although there is also a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port. It also has a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello, and this whole package comes in at just $699.
For the processor, Acer is using Intel Ice Lake now, which is the 10nm flavor of the 10th-gen lineup. The one in this model is the Core i5-1035G1. Check out the unboxing video below:
