Acer is making a number of announcements today on the eve of the official start of CES 2012 in Las Vegas. At a press conference today, the company quickly revealed plans for an upcoming tablet that will be the first, or at least the first announced, to have a 1080p resolution display.
Engadget reports that Acer only revealed that the tablet, named the Iconia Tab, would be based on Android (presumably 4.0) and have NVIDIA"s Tegra 3 quad core processor inside. There"s no other word yet on any other details, including pricing or a release date.
In related news, Acer also announced at CES 2012 plans to launch AcerCloud. This competitor to Apple"s iCloud service will allow both pictures and documents to be synced up via the cloud service.
In a statement Acer said:
AcerCloud makes it easy to take photos on a smartphone while on the go, and then view them on a main PC at home or in the office, without the delay and complication of manually transferring files. It also allows users to purchase a movie from an all-in-one PC, and then watch it on a tablet or smartphone on a train or airplane
The service will support Android at first with Windows support coming at some time in the future. The AcerCloud client will be bundled with all of Acer"s PCs starting sometime in the second quarter of 2012. There"s no word if Acer plans to charge for the service.
