In August, Microsoft released the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for mobile devices, two weeks after its rollout began for PCs. Along with Microsoft"s own Lumia handsets, the update has made its way to some of its partners" phones too, including the NuAns Neo, VAIO Phone Biz, and HP"s Elite x3.
But five months after the update was originally released, there"s been no sign of it for Acer"s Windows 10 Mobile flagship, the Liquid Jade Primo. Owners of the device have repeatedly requested information about the update on the company"s forums in various parts of the world, but aside from telling users to keep checking their phones for updates, Acer has offered no hint of when it would be made available for them.
Unfortunately, it seems Acer has no intention of bringing the Anniversary Update to the device. Today, German site Windows United reported that Acer had told one of its customers that the update will not be released for the Liquid Jade Primo, due to "instability" of the OS. The original message, in German, reads:
Hallo Michael, sorry für die späte Antwort! Leider führt das Anniversary Update für das Acer Liquid Jade Primo zur Instabilität des Betriebssystems. Da die Zufriedenheit unserer Kunden für uns an erster Stelle steht und die aktuelle Version technisch einwandfrei und belastbar läuft, haben wir uns nach gründlicher Abwägung dafür entschieden, von einem Update abzusehen.
Viele Grüße, Dein Acer-Team
...which roughly translates as:
Hello Michael, sorry for the late reply! Unfortunately, the Anniversary Update for the Acer Liquid Jade Primo leads to instability of the operating system. As the satisfaction of our customers is our number one priority and the current version is technically flawless and resilient, we have decided to refrain from an update after thorough consideration.
Many greetings, your Acer team
Windows United said that it had verified the same information through its own sources.
Additionally, yesterday - before that report was published - another Liquid Jade Primo owner posted on the DrWindows forums that they had received a near-identical reply from Acer having enquired about the Anniversary Update, although the response that they received also added: "If the Jade Primo does not work satisfactorily, please report the phone for repairs."
The Liquid Jade Primo is also not included in the list of Windows 10 devices eligible for the Anniversary Update on Acer"s website. Given that Acer is not supporting that update, it seems unlikely that the device will be eligible for the upcoming Creators Update, which is expected to roll out in April.
Acer"s Windows 10 Mobile flagship was originally unveiled in September 2015, but didn"t go on sale until early 2016. It launched in the United States ten and a half months after its original announcement, priced at $649 with a desktop dock, mouse and keyboard. Three months later, its price was slashed by 31%, and it disappeared from the US Windows Store completely earlier this month. The handset remains available to buy in some markets, including the UK, where it"s currently priced at £209.99 on the Microsoft Store.
Meanwhile, the Liquid Extend - a notebook-style device for the Liquid Jade Primo, designed to offer Windows 10 Mobile"s Continuum experience on the go - was announced in April, but never went on sale.
