Ahead of IFA 2018, Samsung unleashes Thunderbolt 3 QLED Quantum Dot curved display

IFA 2018 is almost upon us, with the trade show officially kicking off on August 31, but that doesn"t usually stop big-name manufacturers from making major announcements ahead of time. Samsung is certainly no exception to this phenomenon, having demonstrated its eagerness to announce monitors a full four days before IFA got underway last year. Now, the company is repeating history with a "first-of-its-kind" monitor launch.

To be fair, Samsung"s CJ79 QLED curved monitor was previously shown off at CES at the beginning of this year, with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity being one of its key selling points. According to the Korean manufacturer"s announcement:

"... the CJ79 features two Thunderbolt™ 3 ports that transmit display, data and power at a superhero processing speed of up to 40 Gigabits per second (Gbps), eight times faster than USB 3.0, and simultaneously charges devices up to 85 watts(W), all through a single cable."

While Thunderbolt 3 connectivity may be convenient, that"s likely not to be all that prospective buyers will be interested in finding out, and now we have more details regarding actual specifications such as refresh rates. Launching alongside two larger CJ89 models that preserve USB Type-C connectivity while dropping Thunderbolt support, here are the details of Samsung"s latest monitor lineup:
