Back in February, Alcatel unveiled its 5, 3, and 1 series of smartphones at Mobile World Conference 2018. Specifically, regarding the Alcatel 3-series, the 3V launched in the United States in the last few weeks for $149.99, incorporating a good set of headline features, at least on paper.
One of the first things people may notice is the 6-inch 18:9 FullView IPS display with 2160 x 1080 resolution. This aspect ratio, or close variations thereof, has become more popular amongst top-tier phones so seeing this in a lower priced handset may provide enticement for some. Dual-lens cameras are also becoming more commonplace and the Alcatel 3V has that covered with 12MP and 2MP shooters on the back while the front houses a 5MP camera of its own. There"s also LED flash included on both the front and back, potentially a feature of interest for the selfie-shooters out there.
However, the initial and ongoing value proposition may end up hinging on the processing power that"s been bestowed upon the handset, which includes a MediaTek MT8735A quad-core CPU clocked at 1.45GHz, 16GB onboard storage, and 2GB RAM. During the course of my review, I"ll be putting the 3V through its paces to see how well it performs and how long it holds up with its 3,000mAh battery.
