Mobile World Congress is just around the corner and if this leak is to be believed, Alcatel will be showing off five new handsets at Mobile World Congress. While that would be an impressive feat on its own, the more interesting nugget of information comes in the form of a modular handset.
According to the folks at Tech2, Alcatel will announce five handsets at Mobile World Congress, but one of those handsets will offer a modular setup like that of the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. While the details are kept to a minimum, the device will offer removable back covers that will give the handset expanded capabilities. As you can see from the supplied images, one such back plate will be a party starter in the form of a light up LED cover that will pulse and change colors.
Motorola and LG offered modular components for their handsets in 2016 - with LG later abandoning the concept for something a bit more composed. Motorola will continue on its path to offer modular back plates for its handsets, but one has to wonder how beneficial these expansions truly are?
Mobile World Congress will take place at the end of February in Barcelona. Neowin will be there to cover all of the details and give you hands-on impressions of everything announced.
