Alcatel's Windows 10 Mobile flagship drops in price again, now available for just $224.99

Last week, Alcatel launched the IDOL 4 Pro in the UK and other European markets - but despite presenting it as a new device when it was announced in February, it"s not new at all. It originally launched in the US last November as the IDOL 4S with Windows 10, going on sale exclusively on T-Mobile for $469, including a virtual reality headset.

Following two significant price cuts, which reduced its price to $288, T-Mobile axed the IDOL 4S with Windows 10 from its range in April, just six months after its launch. However, Alcatel"s parent company, TCL - which also manufactures BlackBerry-branded devices - continued to sell the Windows 10 Mobile flagship on Amazon. Initially, it was priced at $284 unlocked, including the VR goggles, before dropping to $272.99 a month later.

Since then, TCL has been selling the device for $274.99, but now, it"s slashed a further $50 off its price. The IDOL 4S with Windows 10 is now just $224.99 on Amazon, and still includes the VR headset at that newly-reduced price. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Store is continuing to sell the same unlocked handset for $470 - more than double the cost of the device on Amazon.

Key specs of the IDOL 4S with Windows 10 include:

  • 5.5-inch AMOLED display with Full HD (1920x1080px) resolution and Asahi Dragontrail Glass
