Amazon has announced that Alexa and the Amazon Echo are going to be arriving in France next week. The Echo and the Echo Spot will begin shipping on June 13 while the Echo Spot deliveries will be made in the following month. Customers who grab the device from Amazon.fr will be given a 50% discount making the Dot €29.99, the Echo €49.99, and the Spot €64.99.
Jorrit Van der Meulen, VP of Amazon Devices International, said:
“Tens of millions of customers around the world are already using Alexa, and today we’re excited to introduce Alexa to our customers in France. We’ve built an entirely new experience from the ground up that honors the French language and culture, allowing customers to just ask to get music, weather, news, information, and more—just by asking. And there are already hundreds of skills for French customers from some of the most popular brands in France.”
According to the French press release, Boulanger will market the Echo, Dot and Echo Spot in more than 140 of its stores and online.
Amazon is playing catch up with Google in France as the latter already sells its Google Home range in the country. Interestingly enough, Amazon launching Echo and Alexa into France comes on the heels of news that Google’s smart speakers outsold Amazon’s for the first time, so they"ll be hoping to catch up again.
