In November 2018, Amazon added support for the Mexican Spanish language to provide users in Mexico access to Alexa and Echo devices. Today, the retail giant expanded the availability of Spanish to more customers by rolling out support for that language in the U.S.
That means customers can start switching their supported Echo and Alexa Built-in devices to Spanish through the Alexa app. As part of the fresh experience, there"s also a new Spanish voice for Alexa, local knowledge, and hundreds of skills, among others. Additionally, developers can now create new skills for Spanish users.
In addition, users can access the multi-lingual mode on compatible smart speakers. This feature lets Amazon"s digital assistant respond to you in English or Spanish, depending on which language you use to speak to it. Amazon will also roll out the multi-lingual mode in Indian English and Hindi in India and Canadian English and French in Canada.
Aside from the expanded language support, Amazon also introduced today a new capability that allows Amazon Music users in the U.S. to ask Alexa for new Latin music playlists in Spanish, including Sin Filtro, Tierra Tropical, Puro Reggaeton, and Fierro Pariente.
This change is coming not only to Echo devices, but also to smart speakers from Bose, Sonos, Sony, and others with Alexa built in.
