For gamescom today, Dell announced a new Alienware Aurora, technically the Aurora R9 - although the "R9" doesn"t really show up on labels anymore. Typically, this just means refreshed internals, like Intel"s new generation of CPUs and Nvidia"s latest GPUs.
Not this time though. While you still get the hardware refresh, this one comes with a completely new design, as you can see from the image above. It uses the new Legend Industrial Design Language, which we"ll be seeing in a lot of gaming products from Dell.
There are a few key changes. For one thing, the USB ports on the front of the device have been moved from the top to the middle of the front. This is great if you keep the PC on your desk instead of under it. Also, the area around that strip sucks in air, pulling it through the chassis and pushing it out the back for better thermals.
It will be available on August 20 in the U.S., starting at $969.99.
The Legend Industrial Design Language was first seen in Dell"s Alienware laptops, such as the Area-51m, and later the m15 and m17. But now, it"s coming to Dell"s entry-level gaming PCs, which are not under the Alienware brand, as Dell also introduced the new G5 Desktop today.
As you can see, it also has an interesting design on the front with an opening to pull in air. As you"d expect from a gaming rig, it also comes with up to an Intel Core i9-9900K, along with Nvidia GeForce GTX or RTX graphics, or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics. It will be available in the U.S. on August 19 starting at $629.
But that"s not all, because Dell also announced a wide range of gaming monitors and accessories. Headlining them all is the Alienware 55 OLED Gaming Monitor, which is pretty self-explanatory. The 4K UHD screen has a 120Hz variable refresh rate, 0.5ms response time, and 98.5% DCI-P3 color coverage. It also has AlienFX lighting and supports FreeSync. It will be available September 30 starting at $3,999.99.
There"s also the Alienware 34 Curved Gaming Monitor and the Alienware 27 Gaming Monitor, both of which use the Legend design language (like everything else announced today). The larger 34-inch one is WQHD (21:9) with a 120Hz refresh rate while the latter is FHD with a 240Hz refresh rate. They"ll be available on August 28 and September 17, starting at $1,499.99 and $599.99, respectively.
As far as peripherals go, Alienware has two new mechanical keyboards, one regular one and one low-profile one, both of which have Cherry MX Red keys. They"ll be available on August 20, starting at $99.99 and $159.99, respectively.
Finally, there are three new mice, all of which will be out on August 20. The Alienware Wired/Wireless Gaming Mouse has RGB lighting, a 1,000Hz polling rate, and a 16,000DPI sensor, starting at $99.99. The Alienware RGB Gaming Mouse also has RGB lighting and a 16,000DPI sensor, starting at $74.99. Finally, the Alienware Wireless Gaming Mouse has a 12,000DPI sensor, and it starts at $62.99.
