All three Microsoft CEOs appear at company rally; lots of Lumias record the moment

It was like a scene from a "Doctor Who" convention at Microsoft"s Redmond, Washington campus today, except that instead of seeing different incarnations of television"s Time Lord, employees were treated to what may be an even rarer sighting. All three of the company"s CEOs appeared during the company rally that was held at "Studio D" on campus and it looks like the crowd loved what they saw.

The official Microsoft Twitter account recorded the event, which saw company founder and first CEO Bill Gates share the stage with leader number 2 Steve Ballmer. In the center is Satya Nadella, the third and latest CEO of Microsoft in its 38 year history. The photo shows employees surrounding the trio and taking pictures of the gathering. It looks like Nokia"s Lumia smartphones got a lot of use today, which is appropriate since Microsoft should be acquiring the Devices and Services unit from Nokia in the next few weeks.

Microsoft"s Twitter account also posted another image of all three Microsoft CEOs today, this time in a more private moment and joined by Microsoft"s new Chairman John Thompson.

The official Microsoft blog also has some comments from now former CEO Steve Ballmer, who said of Nadella, "Satya is thoughtful. Satya is cool. Satya is deep. He sees the playing field. He really thinks things through. He’s absolutely the perfect choice as our new CEO."
