Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that it had increased the number of countries and territories that can sell Windows 8 apps from the Windows Store to a total of 120 international markets. As one might expect, this has caused a big increase in the number of Windows 8 apps to be made available on the Windows Store feature.
Late on Thursday, Wes Miller, the Research VP at the third party analyst company Directions on Microsoft , posted a note on his Twitter page that said:
Significant surge in apps on the Windows Store yesterday. Almost 1600 Windows Store apps globally, 1153 in the US.

Last week, unofficial numbers said that the number of Windows 8 apps had gone up to 1,080 in the Windows Store. While Microsoft has yet to confirm any of these numbers, it seems likely that the amount of Windows 8 app that will be added to the Windows Store will increase greatly in the six weeks before Windows 8 itself is launched on October 26th.
