On February 7th, online retail giant Amazon quietly stopped offering price match refunds for televisions purchased after the aforementioned date.
According to a report from TechCrunch, last year, the Seattle-based company ended price matching for items other than TVs. That was in response to startups being launched to help automate the process of requesting refunds from e-commerce sites. What was special about Amazon’s method of price matching, was that it was only offered for first party items (for example if an item was discounted after you had made the purchase, you were entitled to a refund), and only within seven days of purchase.
People who have purchased TVs before February 7th are entitled (provided the claim is made within 30 days) to Amazon’s Low Price Guarantee. This means you will receive 100% of the price difference, via Amazon Gift Card. However, the purchase must be from a qualifying competitor, “excluding accessories and ancillary service”, and mustn’t be from a third party seller on Amazon.
