Starting today in London, Amazon is making its grocery delivery service, Amazon Fresh, free for Prime users. The Seattle firm aims to roll out the service across the UK by the end of 2020, as many have switched to buying essentials online due to coronavirus-related lockdowns.
The service, available on Amazon"s UK website, can be used to deliver meat, seafood, snacks, and other household essentials, the retail giant stated. It offers delivery in two-hour windows on orders over £40, with no shipping fee for Amazon Prime members. In most areas, same-day delivery will usually be available for orders placed before 9 pm. Previously, the minimum order value was set at £40, which has now been lowered to £15. The press release read:
"For the first time, Prime members in around 300 postcodes across Greater London and the South East (including London, Surrey, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire) can do their weekly shop on Amazon Fresh, with incredible local produce, favourite brands and artisan products, included in the cost of Prime membership."
Amazon is also introducing same-day delivery in more than 40 postcodes in the South East. Prime members in the area can also have groceries delivered to them in a one-hour window on orders exceeding £40 for a shipping charge of £3.99.
Those eligible for the service can get started by requesting an invitation on the Amazon Fresh site, and they"ll be informed when they"re able to shop.
