Amazon launched its entry in the growing TV set top box genre, Fire TV, over a month ago, but apparently it would like for some of its regular customers to give the product a good run around the block for the price of $0.00. Today, Engadget reports that some Amazon users are getting emails with an offer to use Fire TV free for 30 days.
The report says that the invited members don"t even have to pay for shipping if they wish to return the Fire TV box before the end of their 30 day trial period. All they have to do is make sure that the device is in "new" condition when it is shipped back to Amazon. It"s not clear just how many people are getting this offer nor why the company is letting people get their hands on the set top box for free.
Just a reminder: Amazon Fire TV costs $99 and has a quad-core processor, along with 2 GB of RAM. It includes access to a number of well known streaming media apps, including Netflix, Hulu Plus and its own Amazon Prime Instant Video, which just began to offer subscribers access to a number of HBO television series this week.
