Amazon India partners with Mahindra Electric for deliveries in seven cities

Amazon India has announced a new partnership with local electric vehicle maker Mahindra Electric. The two are working together to enable delivery through electronic vehicles in India. It is also part of Amazon"s commitment to the Indian government and its "Make in India" campaign, similar to the recent decision made by the company to start manufacturing some Amazon products locally.

The managing director and CEO of Mahindra Electric, Mahesh Babu, commented on the company"s partnership with Amazon India:

“We are proud to partner with Amazon in deploying Mahindra Treo Zor EV in their delivery partners’ fleet. We believe, this will redefine India’s logistics and last-mile delivery needs and at the same time help Mahindra and Amazon to achieve our sustainability goals. Treo Zor offers a unique customer value proposition with best-in-industry power of 8 kW, and highest-in-class payload of 550 kg. We are happy that this made-in-India electric cargo will contribute towards Amazon’s delivery partner fleet transformation towards EVs in the country. The success of our Treo range of three-wheelers has proved that electric vehicles in the last mile segment is a win-win solution for our customers as well as the larger society.”

In 2020, the tech giant made a pledge to deploy 10,000 electronic vehicles in the Indian region by the yea 2025. The alliance with Mahindra Electric will supply its Mahindra Treo Zor vehicles which resemble rickshaws quite a bit as part of this promised fleet. The Mahindra Treo Zor electric vehicles have already started making deliveries in seven cities, namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow and New Delhi.
