Amazon is now selling two Android handsets to Prime members at big discounts, with a catch

As a part of its latest promotion for Prime members, Amazon is offering some decent discounts on two Android handsets, namely the BLU R1 HD and the Moto G4. Both the unlocked smartphones are now available at a $50 discount each, provided that the buyer doesn"t mind advertisements showing up on the devices" lock screens. You read that right, ads and "special offers" will show up when the device is locked, which are likely the reason behind the big discounts on the handsets.

The BLU R1 HD is now available for $49.99 (instead of $99.99) for the low end version and $59.99 for a higher end version. The specifications of the device are as follows:

  • Display: 5-inch HD curved Gorilla Glass
  • OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • RAM: 1GB / 2GB
  • Storage: 8GB / 16GB (SD card expandable storage up to 64GB)
  • Processor: 1.3GHz MediaTek 6735 quad-core processor
  • Cameras: 8MP rear with flash, 5MP front with flash
  • Battery: 2,500mAh

Meanwhile, a lower end Moto G4 can now be purchased for $149.99 instead of $199.99, and the higher end variant is available for $179.99. It boasts the following specifications:

  • Display: 5.5-inch Full HD curved Gorilla Glass
  • OS: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Storage: 16GB / 32GB (SD card expandable storage up to 128GB)
  • Processor: Up to 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor
  • Cameras: 13MP rear with dual-LED flash, 5MP front
