Microsoft launched the Android version of its Xbox SmartGlass app in 2012 and later updated it so it would work on Android-based tablets as well. One big exception was support for Amazon"s line of Kindle Fire tablets. While they all use a version of Google"s mobile OS, Amazon"s tablets have modified it so much that many Android apps could not run on those devices.
That has apparently changed as Amazon has now launched a version of Xbox SmartGlass specifically for owners of the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD tablets. Since Amazon has said it has sold "millions" of those hardware products in the past, that means Xbox SmartGlass just got a chance to be used by a much bigger audience.
As with the previous versions launched for Android, iOS, Windows 8 and Windows Phone, the Kindle Fire versions allow users to remotely control their Xbox 360 console (assuming they own one) so it can handle features like media playback and web browsing. It also offers a number of "second screen" extra for certain Xbox 360 game such as Halo 4 and with media apps such as HBO, which recently launched their Game of Thrones support for Xbox SmartGlass.
