Game streaming is set to become a key component of the gaming market in the future, as more companies announced plans to enter the segment in some way. Amazon may be yet another player in that fight, as a new report suggests that the tech giant could be launching its own game streaming service.
The report isn"t heavy on details, but it does mention that Amazon is in talks with game publishers regarding the service, which indicates that it may be looking for partners to launch games on the platform. Additionally, it"s said that the service will launch in 2020 at the earliest, so it"ll likely be some time before we hear any sort of official confirmation.
Amazon has shown a clear intent to enter the gaming market in some manner, however, as seen in job listings such as this one for a Lead Cross Platform Game Engineer. The job description indicates that the candidate would help "shape the foundation of an unannounced AAA games business", but it"s not entirely clear what that entails.
Of course, Amazon will likely face serious competition if it decides to launch such a service. Microsoft recently announced Project xCloud which aims to do something similar, and Google even let users sign up to test its own Project Stream with Assassins Creed Odyssey. Game streaming is a cloud-focused service, and all three companies have the prowess to handle it, which could result in a shift from the traditional competitors in the gaming industry.
