While the likes of Spotify and Apple Music have offered family plans to customers for quite some time now, the UK branch of Amazon’s Music Unlimited streaming service has been limited to individual plans since its launch in November.
The US got early access to family plans previously, but today Amazon has rolled out its family subscription in the UK to challenge its streaming rivals. It will cost you £15 a month or £149 for a year -- or just over £12 a month if you average it out. For that fee you and five others will gain full access to Amazon’s extensive music library of over 40 million tracks, curated playlists and, of course, integration with Amazon’s very own Echo speaker.
There doesn’t seem to be a discounted rate for Amazon Prime members on the family plan, although individual plans are slightly cheaper at £7.99 per month (or an annual payment of £79) than the non-Prime price of £9.99 per month.
Amazon’s new family plan fits in alongside two other subscription options, including the aforementioned individual plan or the Echo plan (£3.99 per month) which only works on a single Echo device. The company’s separate Prime Music service is available for free for Amazon Prime customers too, however it’s limited to two million songs rather than the expanded library of Amazon Music Unlimited.
