The COVID-19 outbreak has led to a surge in panic buying and shopping in general. To help meet the demands, Amazon has opened up 100,000 new full and part-time positions across the United States in fulfillment centers and in its delivery network.

Additionally, the firm will be investing $350 million in increased compensation for hourly employees across the United States, Canada, and Europe. This compensation will be reflected in the hourly wages of the employees as follows. Amazon will be paying an additional $2 USD per hour worked through April from its current rate of around $15 per hour. Countries in the European Union will also see an increment of approximately €2 per hour, and £2 per hour in the United Kingdom.
Given the highly contagious nature of COVID-19, Amazon has assured that health and safety are a top priority at the company and at all its buildings and sites. To ensure a healthy and safe environment for its workers, the firm is consulting with medical and health experts and taking the required precautionary measures.
