Amazon plans to hire 1,000 new full-time workers with Beaumont fulfillment center

Amazon has revealed plans to open a new fulfillment center in Beaumont, California that will create 1,000 new full-time jobs. The center will be the 14th to open in the Inland Empire in Southern California, joining Eastvale, Moreno Valley, Redlands, Rialto, Riverside, and San Bernardino.

Discussing the development, Mark Stewart, Vice President of Amazon’s North America Operations, said:

“The Inland Empire has been a great place to do business: serve customers, create jobs, and raise the bar on innovative technologies. Since we started fulfilling customer orders six years ago in San Bernardino, we’ve been able to build up an amazing team of dedicated associates who now earn at least $15 an hour and receive industry-leading benefits on their first day of employment. We’re excited to now be part of the Beaumont community and grow our team there.”

Beaumont Mayor, Nancy Carroll, also said she was pleased with the news, noting:

“Amazon is the largest employer in the Inland Empire. I am pleased to announce that Amazon has chosen Beaumont and will be opening a four-story, 640,000-square-foot fulfillment center in the Beaumont industrial business park at the merge of Interstate 10 and State Route 60 freeways. Each Amazon facility opens opportunities for jobs, many involving cutting-edge technology. This facility will provide direct employment opportunities in the San Gorgonio Pass region and additional indirect jobs and commerce for local small businesses servicing the needs of the new workforce and the facility.”

Anyone who decides to take up Amazon on its offer of a full-time job will pick, pack, and ship items in a 640,000-square-foot center. Items that will be parceled include books, small electronics, school supplies, and home goods.

Aside from the 1,000 new job opportunities that Amazon is announcing today, the firm said that in California alone it had already created 39,000 jobs, investing $19 billion in the state including on infrastructure and on compensation for its employees. It believes that it has also created an additional 50,000 indirect jobs on top of its direct hires.

Aside from the $15 minimum wage that all full-time employees will earn, the firm also offers benefits from day one including “comprehensive” health care, 401(k) with 50% match, up to 20 week paid parental leave, and access to Amazon’s Career Choice program which pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields.
