Amazon has revealed that Cyber Monday was the biggest shopping day in the company’s history with more products being ordered around the world than on any other day of operations. It saw a record number of Amazon devices purchased globally with millions of units being sold around the globe, and more than 18 million toys and 13 million fashion items being sold on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.
Discussing the impressive results, Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer at Amazon, said:
“Black Friday and Cyber Monday continue to break records on Amazon year over year, which tells us that customers love shopping for deals to kick off the holiday shopping season. With curated gift guides, convenient shopping experiences, incredible product selection, and free shipping with no minimum purchase amount, Amazon offers customers tremendous value—sure to deliver smiles all season long.”
With regards to Amazon devices, the firm said it sold millions of units around the world on the weekend with the all-new Echo Dot being the #1 selling product, perhaps largely due to its low price. Amazon did well across other categories too with the Fire TV Stick 4K with all-new Alexa Voice Remote and Fire 7 tablet with Alexa reaching #1 in their respective fields. The Fire TV in particular was the best selling streaming media player in the U.S., UK, Germany, and Japan across all retailers.
Smart home devices also got a boost this year; according to the retail giant, more people decided to secure their homes with Amazon home security products such as Ring and Blink, which more than doubled their sales on Amazon compared to the same period last year. More traditional items such as Fire tablets and Kindle devices also remained strong with millions of units being bought.
