Amazon launched its Echo smart speaker in 2014, but its biggest rivals aren"t content to let the company have the market to itself. Powered by Amazon"s Alexa digital assistant, the Echo now competes with Google Home, while Apple"s Siri-based HomePod is coming later this year, along with new products using Microsoft"s Cortana assistant, such as the Harman Kardon Invoke, and a device from HP.
Amazon is no doubt hoping to tempt a few more buyers to give the Echo a go by reducing its price by a cool $50 (28%). The discount applies to both the black and white models of the speaker, bringing its price down to $129.99 (usually $179.99).
There"s no indication of when this discount might end, so if you"re thinking of grabbing the Echo at that price, it"s probably best not to wait too long.
As part of the purchase, you can also opt to book a free Alexa Smart Home Consultation, including:
- Get all of your smart home questions answered from an Amazon expert
- See what smart home products Amazon recommends with an in-home demo
- Enable popular Alexa skills like Starbucks Reorder and flash briefings
- Learn how to build an Alexa smart home using voice commands
On Wednesday, Amazon will officially release a new addition to its Echo family. The Amazon Echo Show, announced last month, expands on the capabilities of the speaker hub by adding a 7-inch touchscreen, and is priced at $229.99.
