AMD announced its latest mobile Ryzen APUs today, it"s second generation of the series. While the company refreshed its 15W U-series chips, it also introduced the new 35W H-series for gaming.
At the top end, there"s the Ryzen 7 3750H and the Ryzen 7 3700U. Both chips have a 2.3GHz base frequency and a 4GHz boost frequency. The Radeon Vega graphics have 10 cores with a 1400MHz frequency. All of the higher end chips are built on 12nm technology.
Next are the Ryzen 5 3550H and Ryzen 5 3500U, which have clock speeds of 2.1GHz and 3.7GHz for base and boost, respectively. The octa-core Vega graphics come in with a clock speed of 1200MHz. The last piece of the 12nm puzzle is the Ryzen 3 3300U, which has clock speeds of 2.1GHz and 3.5GHz for the base and boost frequencies, respectively, and a hexa-core 1200MHz Vega GPU.
Finally, on the lower end, there"s the Ryzen 3 3200U and the Athlon 300U, which are both dual-core with four threads. These are built on 14nm nodes, and they come with triple-core Vega graphics.
AMD compared its new chips to Intel"s new Whiskey Lake CPUs, saying that they"re better for gaming due to the Radeon Vega graphics. Indeed, even the U-series should outperform Whiskey Lake in this area, and the new Ryzen H-series should be interesting, as the lower TDP should offer better battery life.
The firm also promised that moving forward, all new drivers will still support the first generation of Ryzen processors.
