Processor maker AMD generated $1.57 billion in revenues in its April-June quarter. The results, revealed in AMD"s press release, were just slightly below the company"s revenues of $1.65 billion for the same period a year ago and also slightly below the $1.58 billion in revenues that were expected from Wall Street analysts. Net income for AMD for the quarter came in at $70 million compared to $83 million for the same period a year ago.
However AMD claims that its prospects are looking better in the future. It predicts that its revenue will take a jump of between 8 and 12 percent in the current quarter. In addition its current chief financial officer and its interim CEO Thomas Seifert is quoted as saying, "APU unit shipments greatly exceeded our expectations, and we are excited to build on that momentum now that we are shipping our "Llano" APU."
In related news AMD is now in its seventh month in trying to find a person to permenantly take over the CEO spot that"s currently held by Seifert. The Wall Street Journal reports, "A number of prominent executives - including Michael Capellas, the former chief of WorldCom Inc. and Compaq Computer Corp., and William Nuti, chief executive of computer maker NCR Corp. - have turned down approaches by AMD." Usually finding a new CEO for a large company like AMD usually takes three to six months to complete. AMD"s board of directors booted its last CEO, Dirk Meyer, saying that he wasn"t moving quickly enough for the board to get AMD to start making processors specifically for mobile products.
