While most graphics enthusiasts are standing by for AMD"s high-end RX Vega GPU series to drop, they now have to wait a little longer. Today, AMD has launched its RX 500 series, consisting of RX 580, RX 570, RX 560, and RX 550 graphics cards.
Although Nvidia still reigns king at the top-end with its recently released TITAN Xp GPU, the new Radeon cards are giving Nvidia a run for its money in the mid to low end graphics card market.
The new RX 500 series is based on the same 14nm Polaris architecture as last year"s RX 400 series, with bumped up clock speeds and other improvements. Since these two generations will be similar in performance, AMD has opted to compare the new cards with Radeon 300 series from 2015; whose owners are more likely to look for an upgrade.
According to AMD, the RX 580 8GB has 57% better performance than the R9 380X, pushing for smooth 60fps 1440p resolution gaming. Its little brother, the RX 570, focuses towards providing 60fps in 1080p gaming environments and arrives with 2.3 times faster performance than the R7 370.
The RX 560 and RX 550 cards are the last of the bunch, producing enough power under their hoods for a decent gaming experience, with AMD pushing them as competitive gaming GPUs for titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Pricing for the new RX 500 series, along with links for specs and more details is as follows:
- Radeon RX 580 8GB - $229, 4GB - $199
- Radeon RX 570 4GB - $169
- Radeon RX 560 2GB - $99
- Radeon RX 550 - $79
Just as last year, AMD has stuck to releasing a mid-ranged affordable GPU family, although the upcoming high-end RX Vega cards may soon be looking to change that tune.
