The AMD Radeon RDNA 2 graphics that will be inside Samsung"s upcoming flagship, likely to be called the Exynos 2200 SoC, is reportedly performing well in internal testing. The update comes from a member of the Clien forum.
The results are allegedly from CompuBench"s GFXBench 3.0 and apparently, the chip is performing much better than Apple"s A14 Bionic. However, these purported scores still put it nowhere near Apple M1"s GPU which appears to be in a league of its own.
The alleged benchmark scores (in fps) of the AMD mRDNA graphics alongside the Apple A14 and M1 are listed below. All runs were apparently done using the Offscreen mode.
Apple A14 Bionic | Exynos 2200 w/ AMD Voyager | Apple M1 | |
---|---|---|---|
1080p Manhattan | ~ 120 | 170.7 | ~ 270 |
Aztec Ruins High Tier | ~ 30 | 51.5 | ~ 80 |
Aztec Ruins Normal Tier | ~80 | 121.4 | ~ 217 |
It was already rumored that the mobile RDNA 2 (mRDNA) inside the Exynos 2200 - reportedly codenamed AMD Voyager - packs six CUs for a total of 384 stream processors. In today"s report, it is said that the Voyager was tested at clocks of ~1.31GHz, which sounds plausible for mRDNA as the RDNA2 architecture is known to be a speed demon.
The first Exynos chip with an AMD GPU is expected to debut sometime this year, though there is not much known in the way of what product it will debut in. There could be concerns about availability too, as the Exynos 2200 SoC may not be readily available due to poor yields (via @FrontTron).
