At CES 2018 in Las Vegas, AMD announced that it has lowered the recommended retail price for its higher-end processor range. Savings of up to 30% will be applied to the Ryzen 3, 5, 7, and Threadripper models, which should heat up the already-quite-hot CPU market.
First off, the AMD Threadripper 1900X - the only model in this range to receive a discount - will come with a new MSRP of just $449, down from the original price set at $549. The higher-end models in this range will remain at $999 and $799 for the 1950X and 1920X respectively. For those looking to build a decent enough gaming system, the Ryzen 1800X, which broke the world record for performance in the Cinebench R15 benchmark when it launched, will get a substantial cut to $349.
If you are aiming to put together an all-in-one solution that can play some Overwatch on a rainy Sunday morning, the upcoming Ryzen APU series will be priced at $169 and $99, for the Ryzen 5 2400G, and Ryzen 3 2200G respectively. According to AMD, these APUs will become available next month and is fully compatible with existing 3-series motherboards - after a BIOS update.
These price cuts follow on news that AMD will launch its next-generation Ryzen range - called Zen+ - in April, which uses a new 12nm process. The company expects a performance uptick of at least 10 percent over the current generation.
