When it comes to PC gaming in the last couple of years, we have seen several new image upscaling solutions from both AMD and Nvidia that aim to reproduce near-native image quality. The latest such technology is rumored to be AMD"s new Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) according to a new report by VideoCardz.
The outlet claims that the new RSR technology will be different from AMD"s earlier FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) solution as it will work in "nearly all" games out-of-the-box and not require per-game implementation from the developer. It is based on FSR 1.0 and will work via the Radeon Software graphics driver updates. As long as a title features the Exclusive Fullscreen mode, ie, the game has full control of the display and the graphics card resources, AMD"s new Radeon Super Resolution technology should work, alleges the site.
However, AMD"s new technology is rumored to only work with AMD"s RDNA and RDNA 2-based GPUS, at least at the beginning. This means the Radeon RX 6000 and RX 5000 series GPUs will be supported.
AMD RSR will reportedly be released in January 2022 and VideoCardz speculates that the company could talk about the feature in a few days" time at the CES 2022.
