Some HTC users are in for a treat this morning, as the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has begun rolling out to the HTC One M9 flagship. The newer A9 device is also getting its own update with Android 6.0.1 becoming available for unlocked phones.
The Taiwanese phone company previously made a commitment to its users, promising that future security software updates for Android would be going out approximately 15 days after they’re released for Nexus devices. And it looks like HTC is keeping true to its word, with Android 6.0.1 going out to the newest HTC phone, the A9.
This is right on schedule and aligns nicely with some previously leaked info. Also on schedule is the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update that’s now available for unlocked One M9s. The release was previously announced by the company’s VP of Product Management, and it’s very nice to see HTC being so proactive with its updates.
Other devices will also start seeing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in the near future. For a longer timeline, you can check out some of our previous coverage. As for carrier specific release dates, those still aren’t clear. Your best bet is checking HTC’s Update page and see what your carrier is currently working on. Most phones seem to currently be in the certification stage, meaning they’ll be getting the update at some point in the foreseeable future.
