At the start of the month, we mentioned that Honor had partnered with XDA and was looking for beta testers for Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0. Those who were lucky enough to get into the beta program and have an Honor 8 smartphone, are now getting the test versions of the new OS.
For those of you less familiar with EMUI, it’s a user experience built on top of Android, which is being used by a number of companies on flagship devices, including Huawei’s Mate 9. The new version of EMUI, v5.0, brings a cleaner, brighter interface, performance improvements, better quick toggles, and a few other changes.
Meanwhile Android 7.0 Nougat, that powers the whole thing, comes with its own set of improvements both in terms of security and performance. The new OS, alongside EMUI 5.0, should give the Honor 8 a splash of extra polish.
It’s unclear when the final version of the OS will be released to the wider public, but if all goes well in the beta test, it probably won’t be long at this point.
