Android 7.0 Nougat officially released for NOMU S10 - manual flashing required

In the past, Neowin has checked out a couple of NOMU"s smartphones, specifically the S30 and its smaller sibling, the S30 mini, both positioned towards the top end of the company"s device lineup. Of course, there"s the S10 and S20 rounding out the rest of the range but both were, unfortunately, discovered to have been injected with the Triada trojan. Furthermore, the only method of getting rid of the malware was to clean install Android on affected devices.

Now, NOMU has released a new ROM for its S10 smartphone which includes Android 7.0 Nougat, an upgrade from Android 6.0 Marshmallow that originally shipped. In terms of improvements, the update includes a simpler user interface, power saving refinements, and mitigation of reported software bugs.

However, it doesn"t appear that it will be offered as a typical "over-the-air" update but only as an upgrade using flashing tools on a computer. The download itself weighs in at 1.1GB compressed but oddly there are no included instructions advising what to do with the provided images or what software to use to perform an upgrade, which may leave novices in a quandary. In fact, NOMU has gone as far as to discourage "non-professionals" from attempting to flash their own devices. In the meantime, S10 owners will have to sit tight until the company delivers on its plan to release a tutorial video demonstrating the upgrade process to Android 7.0 Nougat.

If you"re still keen to attempt an upgrade of your NOMU S10, you can download the ROM files here and proceed at your own risk if you know what you"re doing.
