Google released Android 7.0 Nougat just under two months ago, and since then, various manufacturers have revealed their plans to make the update available for some of their devices, including Motorola and OnePlus. The LG V20 was the first device to go on sale with Nougat onboard - even beating Google"s new Pixel flagships to market - and it looks like the South Korean company won"t be waiting too long to begin upgrading its older handsets to the new OS version.
LG actually began testing Android 7.0 on its G5 flagship in August with a limited beta in its home market. While the company hasn"t yet announced details of its Nougat upgrade plans, Australian carrier Optus has listed an intended Android 7.0 release for the G5 in mid-November.
Optus says that it"s currently "testing" the update; but if one carrier is preparing to release it in the next few weeks, you can be sure that plenty of other mobile operators are too - in Australia, and beyond. It also seems inevitable that the update will begin rolling out to unlocked G5 handsets around the same time as, or perhaps even before, it heads to carrier-locked devices.
LG has had a good record when it comes to Android OS rollouts. Its G4 flagship was the very first non-Nexus device to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow last year; and in 2014, the LG G3 was the first to get Android 5.0 Lollipop.
