Android O will begin rolling out roughly two months from now, but many manufacturers still haven"t upgraded all of their eligible devices to Nougat, which Google released in August 2016. Google"s latest official figures show that Android 7.0 has so far made its way to just 8.9% of devices after nine months of availability.
Samsung is among those companies still upgrading its devices. Today, as The Android Soul reports, Samsung started its Android 7.0 rollout for the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 (model number SM-T713) in the United States, bumping the device up to software version T713XXU2BQD3.
The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 originally launched in August 2015, alongside a 9.7-inch model. T-Mobile US has today begun its Nougat rollout for the Tab S2 9.7, bringing its build number up to T817TUVU2BQE2. The update is around 1GB in size, and as on the 8-inch version, it includes the various improvements that Google baked into the Android 7.0 update, along with some of Samsung"s own customizations.
Given the age of the Galaxy Tab S2, it"s unlikely to receive any further Android OS updates. While Google is expected to release Android O for its Pixel and Nexus devices sometime in August, Samsung tends to wait several months after Android updates are released before it begins upgrading its own devices. When Samsung"s Android O rollout commences, the Tab S2 will be outside of the typical two-year window of guaranteed OS updates for Android devices.
