While Google is reportedly preparing to launch a hybrid OS, internally named "Andromeda", built using Android and Chrome and a new version of the Pixel laptop, the stable channel of the Chrome OS was recently updated to include support for Android apps. The latest version of the OS is now available for the Chromebook Pixel 2 and two other Chromebooks from Acer and Asus.
The Chromebook Pixel 2, which was the expensive premium laptop from Google until it was recently discontinued, is receiving the update that brings millions of Android apps to the Chrome OS platform. Those who were using the beta channel build of Chrome OS already had access to these apps on their devices.
According to Android Police, the Acer Chromebook R11 and Asus Chromebook Flip were the first to get Android app support through the Chrome OS stable channel last week. Details about the rollout aren"t clear, but other Chromebooks should be getting the update soon. In order to access the Play Store, users simply need to open the app from Chrome"s app launcher and they can start downloading supported apps to their device.
If you have one of the mentioned devices, do leave a comment whether you received the update and are able to access the Play Store.
