It"s been a long time coming, but the final release of Android P could finally be happening this month if a tweet by Evan Blass is any indication. The renowned leaker published the following image earlier today, suggesting that the announcement might take place on August 20:
This wouldn"t exactly be surprising, as the final preview build was released to testers just last week. The date also falls in line with the announcement of Android Oreo, which took place on August 21 last year.
As the testing period is nearing its end, there are two major questions that should be answered during the announcement. First, as it has been the case before, we still don"t know the official name of the new version of the OS. Google has previously hinted at the possibility of it being called Android Popsicle, but it"s possibly that the company was simply teasing its fans.
The other - and probably more important - question is which devices will be receiving the update when it launches officially. Typically, Google"s Pixel and Nexus phones have been first in line for new versions of Android, but this year was the first time other manufacturers were allowed into the beta program. This could also mean that those phones will also receive the final version shortly after its announcement, though there"s no guarantee that that"s the case.
If the suggested date turns out to be correct, we may not have to wait much longer to learn about these details.
