Android P developer preview rumored to land mid-month

It was only last month that the latest major revisions of the Android OS, 8.0 and 8.1 Oreo, collectively managed to crack the 1% mark in terms of an install base. However, this was dwarfed by 7.0 Nougat which edged out its predecessor, 6.0 Marshmallow, as the most used version of the mobile operating system.

While 8.x Oreo has perhaps not penetrated the market as well as Google may have hoped, that hasn"t stopped the company from prepping the next iteration of the platform, Android P, believed to be internally referred to as "Pistachio Ice Cream". However, it seems that we may have a reliable indication from none other than leakster, Evan Blass, as to when developers and eager device owners might get their first glimpse at the OS.

Android P Developer Preview 1 is targeting a mid-month release.

While Blass has a fairly good track record when it comes to tips, of course, the news should be taken with a grain of salt and Google could opt to delay the release of Android P at its discretion.

With Google I/O slated to take place in a couple of months, the final list of added features that will officially ship with Android P may still be subject to change. However, there have been rumors that an official call recording function could make an appearance as enabling smartphone manufacturers to "embrace the notch" and incorporate screens with unique cutouts.
