Anonymous hacks Syrian government web site

The hacker group Anonymous has been busy in the last few weeks and now the group has decided to take a political message to the people of Syria. The News.com web site is reporting that Syria"s Ministry of Defense site has been hacked and defaced with the now familiar Anonymous logo. The hacker group also added a message calling for the Syrian people to remove its current President Bashar al-Assad. The Ministry of Defense site is currently not online as of this writing.

The message, which was written in both English and Arabic, was supportive of the people of Syria seeking to bring the current president down, saying, "The world stands with you against the brutal regime of Bashar Al-Assad. Know that time and history are on your side -- tyrants use violence because they have nothing else, and the more violent they are, the more fragile they become." There was also a separate message directed to the military of the country, saying, "You are responsible for protecting the Syrian people, and anyone who orders you to kill women, children, and the elderly deserves to be tried for treason. No outside enemy could do as much damage to Syria as Bashar Al-Assad has done."

Members of both Anonymous and LulzSec have been busy with cyber attacks on other web sites. One example was made a few days ago when a massive 10 GB data dump of info from "over 70 law enforcement agencies"  was released. The groups involved claimed that the info in the data dump was "sure to embarass, discredit and incriminate police officers across the US."
