Rumor has it that Facebook"s ship will sink today. Or will it? Anonymous has stepped forward with an official statement regarding the operation that was supposed to down the social network. In the statement, according to CNET, the operation was a hoax and was not legitimate. With the movement being spread through mediums such as Facebook and Youtube, such attacks should be not be taken seriously.
The statement mentions that the operation originated from Anthony, one of the members of the group. As part of his plan, he created a fake Facebook page detailing the attack on the network. Although it was met with opposition from the remaining members of Anonymous, Anthony continued on with spreading the word. The group mentions:
Anonymous is a movement we don"t take kindly to when people try to f**k it up. Our movement relies on communicating with people around the world so we can help one another. One skiddy queer chap named Anthony Guerra from the US in Ohio decided to take it upon himself to have some lulz with creating an imaginary opfacebook and pawning it off as a legit anon op. Despite us telling this mate several times we did not support his op, he continued to push his agenda for lulz. This op is phony but he continues to say it"s an anon op.
To return the favor, the group launched their own operation after releasing Anthony"s personal information. For those hoping that this would be the time that Facebook will finally lose the fight to Google+, you will just have to wait for the next time.
