Another big name in game streaming leaves Twitch for Microsoft's Mixer

Microsoft"s commitment to Mixer shows no signs of slowing down, and after the company snatched up Tyler Blevins, also known as Ninja, from Twitch, yet another big name in game streaming is making a similar move. Michael Grzesiek, known by the Twitch username Shroud, announced on Twitter that he will now be streaming on Mixer.

Microsoft has been making big bets on Mixer since it acquired the service, then known as Beam, back in 2016. These include technical improvements such as co-streaming, and new ways for viewers to support streamers. However, in recent months, these investments have become much more apparent, with the acquisition of Ninja as an exclusive streamer serving as a power move for Microsoft.

Now, the company is doing it again with Shroud. The streamer currently has over seven million followers on Twitch, ranking third in terms of the number of followers on Twitch, and eighth in terms of total views (according to SocialBlade). Such a significant acquisition is likely to have cost Microsoft a lot of money, though those details aren"t known to the public.

With big names transitioning to its platform, viewers should move as well, which in turn could cause more streamers to switch platforms as well. That, of course, remains to be seen, but Microsoft certainly seems committed to making it happen.
