Another update rolls out to Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers

Microsoft is rolling out another update to the Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers - its third since launching the preview almost two months ago. The first update came in mid-May, bringing bug fixes and improved battery usage, while a further update arrived earlier this month.

In a post on the Windows Phone Blog, Microsoft"s Brandon LeBlanc confirmed that the company began to deploy this third update today, although those hoping for a big boost in features will be disappointed. He said that the update simply "enables some newly commercialized devices and tweaks a couple of new APIs, so you won"t see a difference on your device".

While many who have installed the preview might lament the lack of new features in this latest update, there may at least be some joy for the developers that use those amended APIs. Nonetheless, LeBlanc suggests that anyone already using the developer preview should ensure that they update to this latest release.

This update bumps the Preview for Developers up to build 12397; the most recent non-developer build, so far available only on the recently launched Lumia 630, is 12359.
