Apparently the Huawei Watch doesn't have NFC and won't be getting Android Pay

It has been close to two years since the Huawei Watch made its debut. Since that time, the watch has been updated and even gained an additional feature, thanks to the activation of its previously dormant speaker, that enabled users to take calls on the wrist. While there was a bit of excitement over the past 24 hours with news that the watch could gain Android Pay functionality, that report has now been countered, with a confirmation from Huawei that states that the watch will not support mobile payments.

It was originally reported by Ausdroid that the Huawei Watch did have a dormant NFC transceiver that would be activated at a later date to make use of Android Pay. Now, after Android Central reached out to the firm and received clarification, it appears that that the watch, in fact, does not have NFC, which would mean that Android Pay will not be coming to the wearable.

While this might be a bit of bad news for device owners, there is a tiny silver lining in the fact that Android Wear 2.0 will be supported on the device and that it is currently being tested. If you are one of those people that want to have the latest and greatest, it might be better to check out Huawei"s latest Watch 2, that was announced at Mobile World Congress in February.
